In Search Of The Good Life

Pick Your Path

On Sunday Pastor Dustin preached from Psalm 1. He reminded us that we work tirelessly to find and experience the good life. We’ll try anything that promises to give it to us. But the only path that takes us there is the path paved by the Giver of Life.

Is Jesus Worth It?

Lose everything to have Him

On Sunday Pastor Dustin preached from Philippians 3:3-11. He reminded us that it’s worth losing everything to have Jesus. All we once held dear, all our efforts to earn God’s favor — we count them as loss. If we have Christ, we have all we need.

Weirdness And Wonder

“The right kind of strength comes from the right kind of weakness.”
-David Powlison

Jeff Schlieder, a member of our sister church in Santa Ana, preached from 1 Corinthians 1:18-31 this past Sunday. He shared that we must embrace the weirdness of the cross to experience the wonder of our salvation. The cross is God’s wisdom though it appears foolish. The cross is God’s strength though it appears weak. The cross isn’t for the somebodies, the influential, or the deserving. It’s for the weak, foolish, and needy.

Live Free

For Freedom Christ Has Set Us Free

On Sunday church member Jason Roenicke preached his first sermon at Sovereign Grace Church. He shared a message from Galatians 5:1-6 reminding us that we don’t obey God to earn His favor; we obey Him because we already have it. The gospel of justification by faith alone means that the verdict is already in, we are fully pardoned and fully accepted by God. We are free to live and serve God knowing that He is for us.

Don't Get Distracted

It’s too easy to get sidetracked

On Sunday Pastor Eric preached from Genesis 6:1-8. He pointed out that there are many details in this book that threaten to derail our focus (e.g. the Nephilim and sons of God from our text). But we need to keep our eyes on the main storyline. Genesis tells of a God with an unwavering commitment to bring Himself glory by blessing His people, even when they get way off track. That’s our story too.

An Ordinary Church

God does extraordinary things in ordinary churches.

In part 3 of our 4-part sermon series on the culture of our church, Pastor Dustin preached from Acts 2:42-47. He reminded us that there is no shame being ordinary Christians in an ordinary church. Our ordinary, day-in, day-out efforts are the very stage on which God does His extraordinary work.

Should You Dig Deep?

Your frailty reveals God’s power.

On Sunday, church member Israel Carbajal preached his first sermon from 2 Corinthians 4:7-18. He reminded us that God has put the precious treasure of the gospel into weak vessels: us. We need not fear our frailty because God is our strength.

Joy And Tears Go Together

Suffering Changes Us For The Better

On Sunday Pastor Eric finished the book of Job preaching from Job 42:10-17. He reminded us that God is using all of our grief to make us like our Savior. He is making us holy. And holy people are happy people. Our sorrows produce our joys.
